Top 10 Rooms to Visit Inside MORI Building DIGITAL ART MUSEUM: teamLab

We are all blank canvases and works of art; unknowingly holding the paint brushes ourselves. What color will you paint your day today? 

Each day can be a blank canvas if you decide to take off all that layers of paint you hide yourself in. Each day a new chance to add a new color, texture and style. Life is like a painting after all, it changes and reflects how we feel inside. We are all works of art, some rough, some smooth, some textured and some soft. All that matters is for you to remember that when things go hard, the most powerful artworks are those which aren’t simply: BEAUTIFUL, they are the ones that makes you feel the most.

This is one of the three main entrances you may enter once you’ve reached the inside of the museum. You will see thousands of flowers projected onto the walls and floors. Walking around will also project the flowers onto your clothes, creating an immersive experience—as if you are one with the artwork. The flowers change constantly so you may see different set of flowers after some time.

This room is one of the most popular and most-visited inside the museum. LED lights and mirrors create the trick of being inside an endless hall. There is an app which you may download on your phone that lets you send elements of nature into the space — that then becomes part of this world.

Japan is known for its high quality crops such as rice. This area recognizes it by resembling a paddy field, the stalks move so you may move through the path without worries. It’s like having your digital garden which portrays the different elements of nature as seen on the actual paddy fields in Japan. We went during the Summer Season and was able to see “Crape Myrtle”, a seasonal summer flower, they also project dragonflies, grasshoppers and more during Summer season. 

This room resembles the movement of waves of water in the ocean, it’s very relaxing just sitting on the beanbags situated in the middle of the room and watching these waves go on, it offers a sense of relaxation from the many hours or minutes of walking around the museum. 

This room creatively uses lights and smoke to create a unique visual appeal. Bright beam of lights dance and follow the rhythm of a certain sound. The light also changes so you may see different colors and movements when returning to the room after some time.

This room is filled with various objects of light that seems to defy gravity. The items on the ground stays on the ground while the items floating stays afloat as if unaffected by gravity. The objects change colors when touched and creates a pleasing aesthetic. When touched the colors of the objects will change and will spread its specific tone of colors to the surrounding objects.

This room is one of the most popular in the museum and people usually line up to enter it during the busy season. When we went there we had to line up for about 30 minutes to enter the area but it was all worth it considering how beautiful the room is and how it makes you feel like you are actually in the movie: “Tangled” when Finn and Rapunzel was singing “I see the light”. If you are a big Tangled fan like me, this is a must-see.

One of the most interactive installation, in here you can see little people falling from up above and landing on whatever items you built for them. There are cows, ladders, and balloons which you can set up to prevent the little people from falling to the floor. I spent some time just playing there because it was so fun!

This room is where you will see a lot of installations mixed up together to build one big forest of fun, the Multi-Jumping Universe and Light Forest Three-dimensional Bouldering are here to name a few. 

Below is an art work called “Graffiti Nature – High Mountains and Deep Valleys”, in here you can draw your own animals and flowers, scan it and watch it come to life in the exhibition space. When you stand still, the flowers will bloom all around you and when you walk they will scatter away.

This is where you will experience visual overdoes, it’s one of the rooms where you may need to line up during the busy season. Thankfully though, not many people can find it and so the waiting time isn’t that long. I had to take off my shoes when entering it because it takes you to a suspended viewing deck where you can lie down and watch the visuals go all around you. Multiple artwork visit this space, can you guess which ones they are?

Tips:

• Avoid wearing high heeled shoes if you want to visit the Floating Space Room: The Nest or play in the Multi-Jumping Universe.
• There are coin lockers which you may use to store your bags.
• We spent around 3-4 hours exploring the whole area and even then we still haven’t fully enjoyed all the rooms so better go there early to get your money’s worth.
• They provide shoes for guests wearing heels when you enter the Athletics Forest
