Meguro River Promenade — A quaint place located in the Nakameguro area which boasts of beauty and exquisite views throughout the year— especially during Spring Time. Each year it is the favorite go-to-spot for Cherry Blossom lovers from all over the world. Four kilometers of this area is lined by the sprawling branches of 800 Cherry Blossom Trees of different types and sizes. A Sakura Illumination Festival is usually held during the Spring season however the event has been cancelled for this year.
As you walk along the riverside and appreciate the enthralling beauty of the blossoms, you will also find street-side cafes and stalls that offers Spring edition drinks and snacks. A few minutes of walk and you will also stumble upon Starbucks Reserve Roastery which is the biggest of its kind in the world.
However, if you would like to enjoy a uniquely scenic view– visiting the area is also beautiful after the petals has fallen and the sakura flowers blanket the surface of the water. It’s as if nature is telling us that with her, nothing happens without a reason.

Some of the cherry blossoms types you will find while strolling along its walkways are the Somei Yoshino and Shidarezakura (Japanese weeping cherry tree). Somei Yoshino is the most popular type of sakura tree seen all over Japan. It’s color is pale pink— they appear to be almost white. Another type of cherry blossom you will find while strolling along Meguro River is the Shidarezakura, it is by far one of my most favorite sakura type. It boasts of a stronger pink color and it’s unique look of drooping branches that resembles a weeping willow. THE EXPERIENCE It is my first time heading over to Meguro River for a Sakura-chasing day but the views and the vibrance of the area took my breath away. What I love about it most is that it’s wide enough that there are a lot of areas where people can enjoy and take their time to appreciate the views. There are temples, quaint cafes and thrift shops located all over the are as well. What I enjoyed doing the most was to head to less crowded areas along the river side and just watching the views while the cold spring air caresses my cheeks and the soft glow of the sunset permeate the trees. It was refreshing for both the mind and soul.
